Introduction

Standards and regulatory systems can be harmonized so that two or several countries or a whole region uses the same standard or regulatory system. The advantages are many.

So far there are three harmonized regional standards/regulatory systems developed:

-     The East African Organic Product Standard

-     The Pacific Organic Standard

-     The European Union regulation for organic production

 

There are also two harmonized regional standards/regulatory systems under development

-     Harmonized Organic Regulations for Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic

-     Asia Regional Organic Standards (AROS)
