Stakeholders from Asia are invited to comments on the first draft of the Asia Regional Organic Standard (AROS). The aim for AROS is to serve as a reference for establishing multi-lateral equivalence for organic standards in East, South-East and South Asia. This is part of GOMA’s support of the Region’s countries to develop a framework for cooperation on organic labeling and trade. This framework should facilitate trade among the Region’s countries and position the region more favorably for trade beyond the region. The Draft Standard was produced by a team of representatives from the government and private sectors in the Region. It is based on GOMA’s work on common objectives and requirements for organic standards, the two international standards, and an analysis of national standards in the region. The consultation period lasts until 6 June. The Draft and Guidelines for commenting are available in this post.
